What Sweet Potato Version For This Year?

Well, I promised myself that I would have all of my Thanksgiving groceries bought a couple of days before the big day and yet I find myself here just now putting my list together. The one constant I can count on is that I will indeed be supplying the sweet potatoes for this year's feast again. The only question is what version will I attempt this year?

Fall Road Trip 2019

Fall Road Trip 2019

Reflecting on a road trip I took with my husband last month that took us through Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and then back home to Texas. I have always wanted to visit Charleston, SC and it was just as beautiful as I had imagined! Next was an unexpectedly delightful pitstop in Beaufort, SC, a place which I hope to visit again soon! Then on to Savannah, GA so I could finally see in person the city and Bonaventure Cemetery, both inspirations for so many books that I have read. And of course we had to experience the deliciousness of a low country boil while we were there! All in all, we travelled about 3200 miles but more important was the time spent together! "Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost." (Erol Ozan)

May your blessings outnumber the autumn leaves!

Decorating for Halloween?

Decorating for Halloween?

Has the cooler weather we've been having put you in the mood to get all those Halloween decorations out? It certainly has had that effect on me!

My college-age kids may be out of the house (mostly), but my husband and I still enjoy gearing up for the holiday! Okay- let me be honest- I still enjoy it and he just enjoys it when I'm happy!

While others have quit decorating for the holiday for religious reasons, I just simply enjoy it for all it means to me, and that is just a fun kid's holiday. I have great memories of Halloween as a kid and teenager and it has no deep dark meaning to me. I don't go in for anything too scary and just keep it light, fun, and of course colorful! And it is a great opportunity for me to showcase my wonderful collection of Dept 56 Halloween items (most retired now) and the colorful Glitterville items which I love! I hope to pass this fun collection on to my kids one day and hopefully they will get the same enjoyment out of it as I have!

May your Halloween be spooktacular! 🎃

Slow Cooker Sweet Potatoes

I came across several wonderful sweet potato recipes from one of my favorite publications, Southern Living. This recipe really stood out as it is one you can throw in the crockpot for 5 1/2-6 hours and you are good to go! And who wouldn't love the wonderful aroma of sweet potatoes cooking while going about your day? Enjoy!

Ready to fall into Fall?

Ready to fall into Fall?

I don't know about you, but I for one am ready to fall into Fall! Full steam ahead for fall decorating, pumpkins and pumpkin pie, watching the leaves change, and the few days of cooler "fall" weather that we will have in Texas!

Because I am optimistic (although possibly foolishly so) about the approaching cooler weather of fall, I am already bringing in the beautiful colors of the season in the hopes of reaching that glorious season quicker! One of my favorite pieces for fall decorating is the beautiful decorative metal tray with an Aztec print which is shown here on the top tier of my dining room hutch! It is such a unique way of bringing in fall color, I know you would love it in your home as well!

In the words of American journalist and author Jim Bishop, "Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons." I have to agree! Enjoy the season friends!
